Gov. Bev Perdue

Gov. Bev Perdue

August 29, 2009 - GOLDSBORO -

Want to let your voice be heard?  Last Tuesday, Governor Perdue convened the first meeting of the Budget Reform and Accountability Commission and launched a new Webpage, brac.nc.gov, so that citizens may make recommendations to the commission. Perdue established BRAC in January via Executive Order #5 to locate and eliminate wasteful expenditures while increasing efficiency in government. In the short term, the commission is expected to come up with ideas that can be enacted quickly to help the state save money.  Its goal will be to have recommendations in time for next year’s legislative short session.

Detectives were able to locate the individual and determined that the incident was a large misunderstanding. Sheriff Winders said, “Thankfully this matter was innocent, but the children and citizens all should be commended in reporting what they considered suspicious activity. We would much rather investigate something that proves to be innocent than to learn about it after a tragedy.”

New Law May Help Build Film Industry

filmAugust 28, 2009 - RALEIGH - Governor Perdue is hoping for a boost in the film industry in North Carolina. Yesterday, she signed Senate Bill 943 allowing production companies a 25 percent tax credit for film projects in North Carolina, up from the previous credit of 15 percent.  The bill also sets minimum spending and hiring requirements for qualifying film companies working in the state. Companies must spend a minimum of $250,000 on production costs in the state to be eligible for the tax credit.  The bill, sponsored by Sen. Linda Garrou of Forsyth County, also requires companies to meet hiring requirements for North Carolinians and other criteria to qualify for the incentive. SB 943 helps ensure North Carolina remains a strong competitor for film production dollars, which totaled $91 million in direct spending in 2008.  The industry employs more than 2,500 statewide.
