September 30, 2009 - GOLDSBORO - Jerry Wayne of Oldies 107.9 passed away this afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Up until recently, Jerry was also the announcer for the Center Street Jam and was always full of energy on stage. He will certainly be missed.

Sheriff’s Office Investigating Kidnapping/Assault

September 30, 2009 - GOLDSBORO - The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a report of a woman being kidnapped, Physically Assaulted and robbed. Late Tuesday night Richard Earl Moore reported Kimberly Diane Matthews missing. He stated that she was last seen at approximately 1:30p.m. on Tuesday when she left to go to work but had not returned home.

At approximately 5:00a.m. on Wednesday Morning Miss Matthews was found by a Highway Patrolman in Halifax County. She was suffering from being physically assaulted. Halifax County Sheriff’s Office contacted and assisted Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in the Investigation. Detectives from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office drove to Halifax County to further the investigation. Miss Matthews reported that she was driving on Highway 13 South when she saw a person walking beside the road that she thought she knew. When she stopped to offer a ride to the individual she realized that she did not know the person. The individual got in her car and wanted a ride to Newton Grove. Miss Matthews reported that she was assaulted by the person in the Jordan’s Chapel area and was then forced to drive him around until they ended up in Halifax County where her vehicle ran out of gas. She was then assaulted again and robbed of her jewelry, purse and cell phone.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his 40s, approximately 5 foot 7 inches, 220 pounds, missing a front tooth on the upper left of his mouth, blond graying hair thin on top with a thin mustache and beard. He was last seen wearing a green pull over shirt and khaki cargo shorts.

Anyone with information to the identity of this subject is asked to contact the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at 919-731-1481 or Wayne County Crimestoppers at 919-735-2255. Detective/Sgt Tammy Odom and Detective Larry Mitchell are investigating the case.

20 Year-Old Charged For Mower Theft

September 30, 2009 - GOLDSBORO - 20 year old Travis Anthony Merritt is charged with Felony Larceny after an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office of a theft that occurred on September 8th.  A TroyBilt riding mower, valued at $1400, was stolen from a shelter at a residence on Lindell Road in the Faro Community.  The mower was located and returned to the owner. Merritt was released on Custody Release.

12th Annual Kids’ Fest Coming to Berkeley Mall

September 30, 2009 - GOLDSBORO - The 12th annual kids’ fest is coming to Berkeley Mall on Saturday October 10th from 10 am to 2 pm. Over 25 educational exhibits will provide information targeted at the health, safety, and well being of children. Local schools and youth will perform on center stage. Crimestoppers Reverse Drawing

September 30, 2009 - GOLDSBORO - Crimestoppers will be holding a Reverse Drawing this year on November 9th at 6:30 pm at the Wayne County Shrine Club, 3716 US 117 Alternate in Dudley. The evening will include a delicious steak dinner, prepared by the Shriners, a silent auction, and lots of fun.You do not have to be in attendance to win; however, your ticket does need to be represented by someone at the event. The Grand Prize will be $5,000 and only 200 tickets are being sold. The cost of a ticket is $100, which includes two steak dinners. You may get your tickets from any Crimestoppers Board Member, or you may call 919-735-8177 for information or to make a donation.

2nd Annual Antiques Appraisal Afternoon

September 20, 2009 - Mount Olive, NC—The second annual Antiques Appraisal Afternoon at the David John Aaron Teaching and History Museum is set for Sunday, October 18, 2009, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. The museum is located at 137 East Main Street, Mount Olive. The event is open to the public.  The appraisals will be conducted by Mr. Conway Rose, the first nationally certified antiques appraiser in North Carolina. Mr. Rose has appraised the value of antiques for more than 60 years.  Items that will be accepted for appraisal must be hand held, with a limit of three items per person. Cost per item is $5, payable at the door. All proceeds benefit the educational work of the museum. Items that will not be accepted include pistols, guns, jewelry and large furniture. Toyota Warns Of Floor Mat Problems

carSeptember 29, 2009 - Torrance, CA - Toyota is warning drivers of several of its cars of a potential safety problem involving the floor mats. Until a solution is found, Toyota is asking drivers of certain vehicles to remove the floor mat and NOT replace it.

  • 2004 – 2009 Prius
  • 2005 – 2010 Tacoma
  • 2007 – 2010 Tundra
